Jersey Shores

Today was a day of exploration.  I have spent the past five weeks either turning left to go north towards Tribeca, or to the right.  Up until today I have been turning left at the corner, to go to the heart of the Financial District and the neighborhood.  Today, I decided to walk straight (instead of turning left) which led me to Battery Park.  As I got through the park I realized I was at water’s edge.  I also realized in this moment just how close I am living to the Statue of Liberty—it was literally right in front of me.  This is the spot one can get on the ferry to get to the Statue.  I continued walking north, for the most part staying along the water’s edge. This led me to “Le District;” the place I desperately tried to find on one of my first walks… only a short 15-minute walk. It is truly amazing how lost I can get in such a small area.  I literally would not be able to find my way out of a paper bag!

It was a beautiful day and I leisurely walked, stopping at a park bench to overlook the amazing view of New Jersey, and pinching myself every few minutes to confirm I wasn’t dreaming.  The weather could not have been nicer.  My only regret was that I hadn’t taken this route before.  So close, so beautiful and so nice!  There were joggers, people strolling, I even watched a volleyball game.  It occurred to me that people really do have a need to be around people; they have a need for fresh air and the warmth of the sun.
