Today is my brother’s birthday. Sadly, he wouldn’t live to celebrate his 52nd birthday. Marty passed away 14 years ago but most of the time it feels like 14 days to me; I miss him so much.
Several years ago I heard an old Indian saying at a service and it was very comforting: No one really dies until the last person who knew them dies. It comforts me knowing that Marty is always with me; he lives within me.
Today feels like Fall, and nothing spells Fall out to me like chestnuts. I am looking forward to buying roasted chestnuts on the street corners during the holidays, but my favorite chestnut is what I find at Williams Sonoma. I can buy a jar of chestnuts already cooked and cleaned. All I have to do is open the lid and eat. There is nothing quite like chestnuts with a glass of wine, BTW.
The nearest Williams Sonoma is in Chelsea, an hour’s walk. It was a beautiful day and the perfect day for a longer than usual walk. I walked through Tribeca and SoHo and by the time I got to the Chelsea I recalled I had read that Sarah Jessica Parker, Mathew Broderick and their family had moved to Chelsea… not far from where “Carrie Bradshaw” lived. I quickly looked up the address on Safari, but of course no address is listed. I thought I saw 11th Street somewhere on the net, so that’s where I headed. As I walked towards the residential part of 11th Street, I noticed a young lady walking 15 to 20 feet in front of me. She was dressed fashionably with thigh-high boots, she was petite and had long blond, curly hair… very much like Carrie Bradshaw. Could it be? Was this possible? I picked up my pace and caught up with her on a street corner, but I didn’t want to appear to be the stalker that I obviously was, so I didn’t even look at her. I continued walking past her and finally stopped as if to take in the neighborhood. It wasn’t Sarah; her name was probably Farah or Kara or Vera, but I now knew it wasn’t Sarah. Needless to say I was disappointed it wasn’t her, but then again, what would I have done? Tell her how much I loved her show(s) and movies? I continued on to Williams Sonoma feeling like Marty was having a good laugh. Rightfully so. *Side note: the 1905 brownstone they purchased in 2021 is on Charles Street not far from where I was roaming.
On my way back I walked by Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment (the one they shot for the exterior) at 64 Perry Street. Carrie’s apartment was actually supposed to be located at 245 East 73rd Street. Check out what I saw on Perry Street! Yes, I am thinking they will be filming “And Just Like That” here, but I don’t believe I will be there at 4:00 a.m. Stalking does have its limits!
