Monday was a casual, relaxed day. None of us were ready for an early start, and of course, I have my morning routine and duties. We had lunch at Fraunces—I just had to share this place with the girls (as I do with all my guests). They loved it too.
Most of the day was spent in Lower Manhattan, on Broadway, shopping. It was a beautiful day, so we walked the Brooklyn Bridge to go to yet another “go-to” for dinner. Can you guess? Cecconi’s, of course! The walk was very enjoyable and incredibly beautiful.
I must admit I am much better at using the map function on my phone since living in New York, but I cannot say it is always spot on. For whatever reason, it had us walking in circles once we got off the bridge. Since I had just walked to Cecconi’s the week before, I shouldn’t have needed the app. I knew this walk was taking much longer than it should have, and I would have been nervous walking some of the streets had I been alone. Even though it took us a bit longer, we did happen on this picture opportunity:
Little by little, we inched our way to the restaurant to have leisurely drinks and dinner. No, we did not get a table by the window. No, there were no celebrities (even those we had never heard about), but the view could still be enjoyed, and we never ran out of things to discuss.
Every night of their stay, the girls would go to their room, change into their night clothes, and then come up to “GATE22 NYC” for a nightcap and a recap. This ritual was always the highlight of our days for me. We left no stone unturned.
For those who don’t know, “GATE22” is the name of my “bar” at home. I have converted my garage in such a way that most days, it houses two cars, but when it is time to play, the cars go out, the bar stools are placed in front of the bar, and the lights go on. Yes, it is a bit odd since I have already mentioned that I don’t really care for the taste of alcohol; however, one must do what one must do!
